Races of the Undercity – Elves and Humans

Of all the races in fantasy RPGs, humans and elves (along with yesterday’s dwarves) are some of the most iconic. When I started writing these sections today, I did not expect things to go in the direction they did. Humans went predictably enough, what with them being the most numerous, and living in the majority of the settlements of the Undercity. The elves, however, surprised me.

As I was thinking about elves in the Undercity, I thought about what the Exile would have meant to such a race. How would such strong lovers of the natural world handle live in an underground civilization? Well, they would try to stay in touch with nature as much as possible was my answer. However, right after that, I thought what about ones that love magic? After all, the elven wizard is a common trope in fantasy literature and gaming. With the conversion of most arcane spellcasters into builders of devices, I reasoned that there had to be a group of elves that specialized in that.

I began writing, and my efforts produced the Rootdweller Elves, the Seeker Elves, and of course, Humans. As before, those links will take you to the wiki entries for those races. My hope is that I will be getting Adobe InDesign for Christmas. If that happens, you may start seeing PDFs with this content. I would enjoy that.
